The law enforcement services provided by the Department include:

  • Response to emergency and non-emergency calls for service
  • Proactive police patrol
  • Traffic law enforcement
  • Criminal investigations
  • 911 Dispatching
  • Crime prevention programs for residents and businesses
  • Crime free multi-housing program for landlords and tenants

Community Policing

The concept of community policing has been a part of the Richfield philosophy of policing for many years. A proactive Crime Prevention Unit has existed within the department for over 25 years. There is also a strong relationship between the department and the schools. The two school liaison officers maintain offices in the middle and senior high schools.

The Department sponsors a safety camp for kids, a citizens’ police academy for adults, an apartment managers’ association, an active police reserve program, and many other community based activities.

The city is divided into four patrol districts with a sergeant and two officers assigned to each. District sergeants and officers serve as points of contact for residents and are responsible for following up on neighborhood safety issues that arise in their districts.
