The Minnesota Department of Transportation’s (Mn/DOT)
Crosstown Reconstruction Project is triggering some improvements at
Richfield Lake. Construction of perimeter
ponds on the north end of the lake has begun.
The goal is to construct a new pond
around the existing Richfield Lake that will clean storm water before it
reaches the main body of the lake. The new pond will be similar to a
moat around a castle. The existing walking path will be raised
about 1.5 feet and reconstructed on the land separating the pond from
the lake.
The City will complete the work around the
southern portion of the lake to meet Mn/DOT’s construction limits. The
proposed project will include some additional perimeter ponds and will
reconstruct the remainder of the paths. The path reconstruction
will help prevent the path on the south end from ending up under water
at high water times.

PUBLIC HEARING HELD ON JULY 11, 2006
The City of Richfield has agreed to administer Mn/DOT’s portion of
the Richfield Lake Improvements and will need to hold a public hearing

City Council accepted formal comments regarding the project
proposed at the June 19th Open House.
OPEN HOUSE ON JUNE 19, 2006
An Open House was held on June 19, 2006 as an opportunity for residents
and business owners in the area to come and learn about both the
upcoming Mn/DOT project and the additional proposed improvements.
PRELIMINARY WORK
In anticipation of the improvements, soil borings will be collected
along the path sometime in the next few weeks. The technicians
collecting the soil borings are not familiar with the project and will
not be able to answer questions specific to the project.
