Metro Sewer Interceptor/Regional Trail Project

Attention Residents: With the cold weather approaching and with Xcel delayed and still working on their undergrounding work, the trail on the north side of 76th Street from the Railroad tracks to Emerson Avenue will not be paved this year. The Contractor will install temporary erosion control measures and yard clean-up and grading for the winter. In the spring, the trail will be paved, yards landscaped with new sod and trees planted. We apologize for this delay and were really hoping Xcel would have finished their work in time to wrap up the project this season. Please call the project hotline with any questions in regards to this matter.

updated 5/15/09

Project has been postponed until Spring of 2010

Project Summary:

Metropolitan Council Environmental Services (MCES) is preparing plans for a major project to upgrade a sanitary sewer line that serves Edina and Richfield. The project will begin at 75th Street and Xerxes Avenue and will extend east along 75th Street to I-35W. It will cross I-35W near the 76th Street bridge and extend east along 76th Street to 11th Avenue, where it will turn north. It will extend north along 11th Avenue to 72nd Street, turn east on 72nd, and extend east to Cedar Avenue on 72nd Street or on Diagonal Blvd.

A new regional sewer pipe will begin at the intersection of 75th street and Xerxes Avenue and extend east along 75th street to I-35W.  It will cross under I-35W near the 76th street bridge and extend east along 76th street to 11th Avenue, where it will turn north.  The pipe will extend north on 11th Avenue to 72nd, turn east on 72nd street, and extend east along Diagonal Boulevard to Cedar Avenue.  At that point the new pipe will connect with an existing MCES regional sewer.  (See Construction Staging map above) These improvements are aimed at meeting the long-term wastewater service needs in this area.

Project Update 4/6/09

Blaylock Plumbing Co. Flyer

The City has been notified that Blaylock Plumbing has handed out flyers to the property owners affected by the Metropolitan Council’s Sewer Project along 11th Avenue.  For clarification, the project does not require adjacent property owners to replace their existing service lines.  If property owners choose to do this there will be no benefit to the project, only to the individual property owner.

The City does not have a contract with Blaylock Plumbing.  If an individual property owner chooses to replace their service line they can use any licensed plumber in the State of Minnesota.

If during construction the NEED to replace an individual service line does present itself (which is not anticipated) the project contractor would complete the work and the Metropolitan Council would pick up the cost of the replacement.

Please contact Liz at 612-861-9793 with any further questions.
