Public Works Maintenance Facility

Opened June 2008!

History

Construction on the new City of Richfield Public Works Maintenance Facility began in May 2007.  Workers started by removing a hill on the nearly 4-acre site which is located on the southeast corner of State Hwy. 77 and 66th Street.  Foundation work began in July and the walls went up in October.  The facility officially opened in June 2008.  The cost to build the facility was approximately $12.5 million.

Why Build a New Garage?

The existing City Garage located near 77th Street and Pillsbury Avenue was partially eliminated when 77th Street was expanded in the 1990s.  This caused a shortage of garage space for City maintenance vehicles.  What's more, the garage was simply not big enough to handle today's larger equipment.  The existing building does not meet code and is beyond repair.  The existing garage will be torn down and the property redeveloped.

The new garage also has enough office space to house staff in one location instead of scattered between the old garage, water plant, and city hall.  A new building will help the department ensure the City continues to provide the high quality of services Richfield residents have come to expect.
